Not Welcoming Spring

It’s been one of those days – spending my reference desk time kicking kids out of the library.  Yep, it’s Spring and our middle school students are ready to be done with school and studies.  Unfortunately, we still have about 10 more weeks to put up with the after school crowd who are waiting for parents to pick them up three hours after their classes are dismissed.  I don’t know at what point I turned into the mean, nasty librarian who delights in enforcing rules and escorting those who break them out of the building.  Perhaps I’m getting less patient with age – – but then, librarians who are half my age are doing the same thing.  No, I think it’s just a Rite of Spring carried out between 6th & 7th graders and librarians annually.  This particular year, however, I’ve taken extra special delight in donning my best “Mother Superior” look and waiting for that magic 3:30 time when I jump into action.
