Mobile Web Page Launch
Our library has joined the growing ranks of organizations designing sleeker versions of their web pages for the mobile audience. This new site has only a small graphic of our library name and then a mere six links on the home page. But these are the items listed by our patrons in a survey we conducted last month as the top services they would most like to use from their iPhones, Droids, Blackberries and other smart phones. Included is a link to our online catalog, a link to their account information, a list of current library events, contact information – including links to email us and submit purchase suggestions – and a link to our Michigan E-Library Interloan. At some later point, I’ll add links for our databases but for now, we are up and running. I think the feature that most delights me is the autodirect from our main web page to the mobile page as soon as the server recognizes that the user has a mobile device. My next order of business is to make the text scalable on the devices. Naturally, I’m going to have to learn this from scratch, since the entire mobile world is new to me. However, I’m going to leave work today resting for at least an evening on my laurels and feeling a great sense of accomplishment. Visit our page at http://m.plymouthlibrary.org.
