Back to Work on Joomla!
I’ve taken a break from writing about Joomla over the past few months since I’ve been so involved with e-readers – but now back to reality! I’ve worked on the new web site on and off now several days each week for about nine months. It was a steep learning curve for me, which caused much frustration, anger, and even a bit of depression on my part. As an older librarian, I wasn’t sure if it was the software itself or my age that was slowing down the learning process. Recently, I’ve come to a good point in the web development. I’m hoping that the light is finally starting to dawn and with it, my comfort and confidence is improving.
Right now, I’m putting in lots of database links and creating articles for almost a hundred “Quirky Questions.” Both of these tasks are fairly mindless, but it’s getting me used to the routine of the software and I can navigate the administrator’s end with ease. It’s getting to the stage where I’ll have to either create icons or find them online. Since I have a Mac at home, I purchased something called Logo Creator for Mac. I’ve worked with it just a bit, but it looks promising for small items within the web site. Above all, I want my images to look professionally done rather than the all-too-obvious amateur ones I see on so many sites. I wish I had just a bit of my father’s artistic ability, but I haven’t seen much evidence of this so far. Alas, I’ll use computer technology rather than native talent to add beauty and art to my site! Tomorrow we have another staff meeting to discuss our progress and see if we’re on the right direction. Wish me luck!!
